Writings of Recovery

The movie ‘Last of the Mohicans’ has a part where Hawkeye implores to Cora:

Hawkeye : No! You stay alive! If they don’t kill you, they’ll take you north up to the Huron lands. Submit, do you hear? You’re strong! You survive! You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you! No matter how long it takes, no matter how far. I will find you!

Today, I saw this scene through the lens of my Higher Power imploring me to stay alive. Even when I was deep in the disease, completely surrendered to addiction, I see now that my Higher Power was guiding me to the rooms of recovery. Even though my HP could always see me, I could not always see my HP. Even though HP had my head, my heart was another matter.

The love and passion in these words to ‘stay alive‘!

To keep doing the work of the daily tools and steps and to realize how deep my HP has been pursuing my heart so that I would not remain lost.

HP pulled me out through the 12 steps.

And For Today, I am recovered, but not cured, one day at a time.

Through the 12 steps I am finding my HP.

I see how my HP pursues my heart every day.
